Religious education

Religious education at Engelberg Monastery gives children and young people a sound understanding of the Christian faith. In an open and appreciative atmosphere, they learn about biblical stories, Christian traditions and core values such as charity, community and mindfulness. Our lessons encourage dialog, provide space for questions and accompany young people on their spiritual journey. Whether as preparation for first communion and confirmation or as part of their personal faith development - religious education invites them to discover and live their faith in everyday life.

Growing into the faith

Religious education plays an important role in helping children grow into faith and become familiar with church traditions. They are guided in their questions about God and the world, developing a sense for the reality beyond what we see around us. Alongside listening to biblical stories, creative experiences of the church year (such as Easter, Christmas, and more) also hold a valued place in the lessons.

The lessons

The lessons form a coherent whole from the 2nd to the 9th grade. The children acquire tools that strengthen them in their lives and in their dealings with God and their fellow human beings. Religious education in Engelberg is conducted ecumenically (exception: sacraments 3rd and 4th grade) on the premises of the parish school.

Your child will acquire age-appropriate skills and abilities for everyday life. These are skills such as:

- Developing identity
- Acquiring religious forms of expression
- Representing Christian values
