The bells of the monastery church

Interesting facts about the monastery bells

In 1964, the monastery church received a new peal of bells. Eight bells manufactured by the Emil Eschmann AG bell foundry hang in the tower:

  1. Large or trinity bell (G sharp, 4810 kg)
  2. Cross bell (Rickenbach SG) (H, 2890 kg)
  3. Bell of the Mother of God (c sharp, 2010 kg)
  4. Angel bell (dis, 1430 kg)
  5. St. John’s bell (f sharp, 840 kg)
  6. Apostle bell (g sharp, 580 kg)
  7. St. Benedict’s bell (h, 360 kg)
  8. Patron saint bell (c sharp’, 250 kg)

Two more bells hang in the choir tower: the older Agatha bell by Grassmayr, Buchs, from 1912 (d “, 193 kg) and the Bruderklausen bell (d sharp”, 180 kg), also cast by Eschmann in 1964. The baroque Silentium bell by Christian Schmid, Bregenz, from 1731, which weighs 29.5 kg, still hangs in the ridge turret above the ballroom.
