Patron Saint’s Day of the Monastery Church
The Assumption of Mary is a special holiday for Engelberg. On the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, our monastery and parish church simultaneously celebrate their patronal feast, the name day of their patron saint. Abbot Christian and the monastic community cordially invite you to join them in celebrating this festive Mass on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 10:15 a.m.
Blessing of Flowers and Herbs
For hundreds of years, medicinal herbs and flowers have been brought to church on the Feast of the Assumption to be blessed. During this ceremony, the church asks for God’s blessing on the healing power of the herbs and flowers for the well-being of people.
You are also welcome to bring your own bouquet of herbs to the service and place it by the baptismal font before it begins.
Project Choir
A special highlight of the festive service in the monastery church is the musical performance by the “Mariä Himmelfahrt” project choir, featuring about 50 singers from various regions.
Under the direction of Ruth Mory, the choir will perform works by Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Schubert, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
A Warm Invitation
In addition to the solemn patron saint’s day Mass in the Engelberg monastery church, a yodeling Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Trübsee Chapel. The Mass at Trübsee, accompanied by music from the Alpina Cheerli, offers a special opportunity to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary amidst the impressive mountain scenery. We therefore invite locals, visitors, and vacationers to join us at both locations to celebrate this Marian feast day together.
