Nidwalden observatory on the Kloster-Alp

The traditional excursion of the Bannwarte of the eight Nidwalden communal alps led to the Herrenrüti monastery alp. The 80 or so guests were treated to a magnificent view and culinary delicacies prepared by the monastery inns in beautiful summer weather. How the Benedictine monastery of Engelberg came to the Herrenrüti Alp and what significance the Alps still have for the monastery today was explained to the guests in two short presentations. During the subsequent lunch in the Rastaurant Wasserfall, Managing Director Daniel Amstutz outlined the many different areas of the Engelberg monastery. Thomas Schleiss, President of the Engelberg Alps, gave an insight into how the Engelberg Alps are organized. Like the eight communal alps in Nidwalden – Trübsee, Arni, Lutersee, Kernalp, Bannalp, Steinalp. Sinsgau and Dürrenboden are also organized as cooperatives. The exchange between the Nidwalden Alps is an important communication tool from which the Engelberg Alps and in particular the Herrenrüti Monastery Alp can also benefit.
