On November 13, 11 motivated young people visited us to get a taste of the companies at Engelberg Abbey.
The day began with a welcome and a short tour of the monastery. Abbot Christian shared interesting details about the Benedictine monastery in Engelberg. Afterwards, Indre Lekaviciute opened the doors of the Hotel St. Josefshaus. The young people learned about the profession of “hotel communication”. Whether it was setting a table for lunch, getting to know the work of reception or preparing a room for a guest – everyone helped out.
Back at the monastery, chefs Julio, Roger and Miro gave a tour of the kitchen. The young people were able to watch the preparation of the “Zmittag” for the Stiftsschule Engelberg. At the same time, they formed a “Grittibänz” from the fragrant dough prepared by monastery baker Dominik Gabriel. This was the afternoon snack.
After lunch in the monastery’s canteen, the young people looked over Romy Odermatt’s shoulder in the KIoster flower store and heard from Monika Amstad about the many different types of work that are important in the nursery.
The last stop on the Future Day was a visit to the Kloster carpentry workshop. Robin Waser, 4th year apprentice, provided information about the profession of “EFZ carpenter”. Andreas Feer then gave a tour of the carpentry workshop and the Hotel Sonnwendhof, where the young people were able to see at first hand what work the carpenters do in another of the monastery’s hotels. Renovation work is currently being carried out in the rooms and reception area of the Hotel Sonnwendhof.
Tired but satisfied and with lots of information and impressions, we said goodbye to the young people.
Engelberg Abbey is committed to training young people. We are already looking forward to Future Day 2026.
