Food Unplugged

The event for all culinary enthusiasts
from June 13 - 15, 2025

Two monastery chefs at Food Unplugged

Created by resourceful Engelberg restaurateurs, Food Unplugged has already secured a firm place in the agenda of culinary enthusiasts in its fourth year of existence. This year, from June 13 to 15, 2025, guests will once again be treated to culinary delights in the forest clearing at the valley station of the Fürenalp cable car, which is owned by Engelberg Monastery. At Food Unplugged, everything revolves around the original preparation of food, i.e. without electricity or gas. Original, authentic, regional and with plenty of passion, the culinary artists will conjure up fantastic creations on your plate and spoil you. The team of Engelberg culinary artists includes Thomas Matter and Benji Schmidt, two culinary virtuosos from the monastery restaurants. When he is not working at Food Unplugged, Thomas Matter delights guests with his culinary skills in the Grafenort restaurant. Benji Schmidt is head chef at the Hotel St. Josefshaus, where he provided culinary highlights for the first time last winter in the restaurant named after him, “Benji’s”. At Food Unplugged, they will now stand together at the natural hearth, i.e. open fire. Their specialty will be suckling pig.
Good to know: Engelberg Monastery is not only supporting this great event with “man power”, but is also offering free use of the area and paying the road tolls for the local road cooperative.

A visit to the forest is worthwhile

The official gourmet evenings have been completely sold out for weeks. Nevertheless, there is still the opportunity for spontaneous diners to stop by the Waldbeizli at the barbecue area on Saturday, June 14, 2025, as well as on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Open from 11.00 to 17.00, you can enjoy snacks prepared exclusively by the chefs from 11.30 to 16.00. On Sunday there is also the opportunity to browse the food market with various local products between snacks. A visit is definitely worthwhile.
