Congratulations on the anniversary
On May 25, the Engelberg Benedictine monk Eugen Bollin celebrates his 60th anniversary as a priest. In his long life as a priest, he has witnessed many a liturgical reform. The now 86-year-old monk has also repeatedly had to embrace new things in monastic life. Father Eugen Bollin taught art, German and religion at the monastery school from 1969 to 2014. At the same time, he worked as a prefect at the grammar school from 1969 to 1988. From 1988, the jubilarian held the office of prior, which he exercised until 2006. In this role, he was also deputy to the abbot.
Father Eugen Bollin became well known as an artist. Even today, he can still be found in his studio every day. Whether charcoal and pencil drawings, large acrylic paintings or experimental woodcuts and linocuts – his works are figurative, gestural-expressionist and sometimes even abstract. From the 1970s onwards, Father Eugen Bollin also appeared in public as a poet. In 1980, he was awarded the Unterwalden Artists’ Prize at the annual exhibition. In 1990, the Benedictine monk was awarded the Heinrich Federer Foundation Prize in Sarnen. Father Eugen Bollin was awarded the Obwalden Culture Prize in 1999.
We congratulate Father Eugen Bollin on his priestly jubilee and wish him continued vigor, joy and good health for his future work.
