Corpus Christi – faith that becomes visible

Significance & topicality

Corpus Christi is a Christian festival celebrated in the Catholic Church. The name means “body of the Lord” and refers to the presence of Jesus Christ in the bread of the Eucharist. The focus is on festive church services and processions in which the faithful make their faith visible outside the church.

Corpus Christi still has a current significance today: the festival reminds us that community, cohesion and lived values are important in everyday life. It invites us to take responsibility not only in private, but also in public, and to actively shape the way we live together.
Corpus Christi is therefore not just a tradition, but an invitation to focus on what unites us and to make room for faith – or one’s own values in general – in everyday life.
