No objections to the construction project
No objections to the “Affordable housing for Engelberg” construction project were received from the people of Engelberg during the ten-day period. As part of the public consultation, an environmental protection association requested the delivery of the planning application documents. The 30-day objection period for the environmental associations has now also expired without any objections being submitted. The three equal partners in the project – the municipality of Engelberg, the community of Engelberg and the Benedictine monastery of Engelberg – are delighted about this. This represents another important step towards implementation. As the building application submitted is within the framework of the district plan already approved by the cantonal government of Obwalden, the three bodies hope that the approval procedure can now go through the proper channels with the municipal and cantonal approval authorities.
Great interest in commercial space
In addition to the planned 93 residential units, around 1900 square meters of usable space is available in the commercial and residential building. Since the construction project became known, several businesses already operating in Engelberg have announced their interest. In addition to affordable living space, the demand for commercial space in Engelberg is also very high. Initial talks were held with interested parties. This is also against the background that, depending on the activity of the commercial enterprise, the necessary installations such as electricity, water, ventilation systems etc. must be included in the detailed planning. The civic community, the local community and the Benedictine monastery are also keen to maintain jobs in the valley.
