Congratulations on your name day
On November 27, 2010, the confreres elected Christian Meyer as the new abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Engelberg. The job profile of an abbot is set out in the Benedictine Rule written by St. Benedict around the year 540. According to this, the abbot is the “head of the family” of the monastic community and is responsible for the spiritual and secular affairs of the monastery. This description is still valid today. If a headhunter had to advertise the position of an abbot today, there would probably be a whole litany of requirements listed. Amidst all this tension of tasks and great expectations, Abbot Christian carries out his work for the benefit of the monastery and the entire valley of Engelberg.
On his name day, we wish Abbot Christian continued courage and, above all, strength for the accomplishment of his many tasks.
